Deadly Well Drowning Claims Father and Child in Jharkhand
A severe accident occurred in Ranchi district on Thursday, claiming the lives of a father and his young daughter in a community well. Identified as Arjun Uraon and his daughter Agasti Uraon, both hailed from Choreya Kolpara village, which falls under the Chohan police station area. The heartbreaking event has left relatives and villagers devastated.
Reports indicate that the father and daughter departed their residence early on Thursday, stating their intention to take a dip at a nearby well. Hours passed without their return, causing alarm among family members. Neighbors eventually tracked down a set of discarded clothing and sandals lying near a field approximately 200 meters away. The location matched the description of a local well.
Residents quickly organized a search effort, using a long metal grabber to check the well's depths. They soon confirmed their fears by retrieving both bodies. The recovery sent shockwaves through the settlement. Law enforcement officials from Chohan police station arrived shortly after, secured the deceased, and arranged for their transportation to a hospital for postmortem procedures. A case has been registered, and officers are actively investigating.
The loss has simultaneously introduced a crushing financial burden to the bereaved household. According to local accounts, Arjun Uraon served as the single income earner, relying on agricultural labor and daily wages to support his family. With his passing, the survivors are now confronting an uncertain future. Police authorities are still assessing the precise factors that led to the accident.
Unfortunately, this is not the first fatal incident associated with the well. Earlier in June, the water body took the lives of two brothers, Sukhram Mundaa and Vinod Mundaa. The tragedy originated when the younger brother slipped into the well. His sibling, Sukhram, immediately dove in to rescue him, but the high water volume and overwhelming conditions proved fatal for both. The recurring incidents have heightened safety concerns across the region.
