Tragedy struck multiple states in India as extreme weather conditions led to widespread loss of life and property. Uttar Pradesh remains the worst-hit state, where at least 31 people have been confirmed dead following a night of intense thunderstorms and lightning. The casualties were widespread, with deaths reported from Raebareli, Ambedkar Nagar, and the Bundelkhand region. In Saharanpur, flash floods triggered by torrential rain in the Shivalik hills swept through the Shakumbhari Devi area, resulting in the deaths of two women. The sudden surge of water left little time for residents to move to safety, demonstrating the terrifying power of localized cloudburst-like conditions. Beyond Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand also reported significant casualties. In Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district, three people were killed and several others injured as lightning struck during a heavy downpour. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the death toll reached five over a 24-hour period. The victims, including women and a young girl, were struck by lightning in districts such as Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Garhwa. Although the rainfall has brought down the mercury, the human cost has been staggering. Meteorological departments have warned that while the heat might return in the coming days, the risk of erratic storm activity remains high.
