Dhanbad’s critical Gaya Pul Underpass is undergoing a significant expansion project aimed at alleviating long-standing traffic congestion. Officials recently conducted a thorough inspection of the ongoing widening work. The project, once completed, is expected to provide a permanent solution to a decades-old problem for Dhanbad residents, effectively serving as the city’s lifeline.
The ambitious target for project completion is December 2026. However, authorities are pushing to accelerate the pace of work, aiming to finish well ahead of schedule. This complex undertaking requires the coordinated efforts of multiple government departments, including water supply, electricity, road construction, the municipal corporation, railways, and BSNL. The strategic location of the underpass, situated beneath vital express train routes connecting major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Gandhidham, and Pathankot, adds to the project’s complexity and importance.
During the inspection, all relevant department officials were present to ensure seamless collaboration. Directives were issued to ensure timely completion of their respective tasks, preventing any delays or impediments to the underpass widening. A forward-thinking proposal for a utility corridor, to accommodate water pipes, sewage lines, gas pipelines, and future infrastructure, was also discussed to ensure long-term efficiency and ease of maintenance.
