Diwali Joy Turns to Mourning After Jharkhand Road Tragedy
Celebrations for Diwali were shattered in Jharkhand’s Simdega district after a Bolero and a motorcycle collided on the Devanadi bridge at Lucharagadh on Saturday evening. The high‑speed car, heading from Bano toward Lucharagadh, slammed into a bike traveling the opposite direction, killing all three motorcyclists on the spot.
One of the riders, named Dayanand Sijang of Sijang, was positively identified. The names of the remaining two cyclists have not been released as investigations continue. Police from the Kolebira police station arrived quickly, took charge of the scene, and sent the bodies to a hospital for post‑mortem analysis.
The crash comes in the wake of a deadly 18‑wheel truck accident in Kunti district’s Karra‑Torpa corridor, where nine people were struck and seven lost their lives, including an 11‑year‑old child and his mother, just 48 hours earlier. Both the state chief minister and the prime minister expressed sorrow over that tragedy.
With three young lives lost, the Diwali festivities in the affected families have turned into periods of grief and remembrance.
