Election Authority Launches Inquiry After Afghan Names Appear in Jharkhand Voter Draft

In the ongoing SIR exercise, the Election Commission of Jharkhand identified three Afghan nationals on the draft voter list for Jamshedpur East. The names – Asil Khan, Mohammad Aslam and Mohammad Ibrahim – are listed under polling booth 286 with serial numbers 30, 31 and 33.

The discrepancy was uncovered during document verification, and a notice was sent to the three individuals. Their inability to furnish Indian citizenship documents confirmed their foreign status. The chief electoral officer has announced a full‑scale investigation, emphasizing that any person who facilitated the inclusion of a foreign citizen will face legal action.
