In a disturbing incident at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Bangurda, Jamshedpur, four students collapsed after being subjected to a harsh punishment on Monday. The students were ordered to perform 200 sit-ups by a teacher for being five minutes late returning from a Shiv temple visit during Shravan Somwari. The affected students include Priyanka Mahato from Kumir, Ashtami Mahato and Dayavati Pramanik from Lowadih, and Purnima Mahato from Geruwala. They were initially taken to Macha CHC and later referred to MGM Hospital in Dimna. Local authorities, including MLA Mangal Kalindi and former BJP leader Vimal Baitha, visited the hospital to check on the students’ condition. Baitha criticized the punishment, stating that the girls’ oxygen levels dropped as a result of the exercise following breakfast. He called for strict action against those responsible, as the students’ well-being was compromised by the school’s actions.
