In the closely watched Ghatsila Assembly by-election in East Singhbhum, the vote counting has reached its final stages, signaling a significant lead for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate, Somesh Chandra Soren. After the 17th round of counting, Soren has amassed an impressive 89,251 votes, comfortably ahead of his nearest competitor, BJP’s Babulal Soren. This substantial margin has all but confirmed Soren’s victory, sparking celebrations within the JMM camp. The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, Babulal Soren, has secured 56,445 votes so far. Trailing in third place is Ramdas Murmu of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha with 11,235 votes. The performance of independent and smaller party candidates has been notably weak, with many struggling to cross the 1,000-vote mark. Notably, the ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) option received 2,458 votes, surpassing several individual candidates.
