Giridih district is taking significant steps to uplift its transgender community. A crucial district-level meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ram Niwas Yadav, focused on integrating transgender individuals into the mainstream through education and government schemes. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of education for the community’s development and urged officials to ensure transgender people are connected with all available government programs. To achieve this, a dedicated committee will be formed to conduct a comprehensive socio-economic mapping of all transgender individuals in the district. This mapping will meticulously record details about their education, livelihoods, health, and overall living standards, providing a clear picture of their current situation. The administration is committed to securing essential identification and rights, with plans to launch a campaign for issuing transgender identity cards soon. Privacy and confidentiality will be paramount throughout this identification process. Furthermore, efforts will be made to facilitate access to voter IDs, Aadhaar cards, Ayushman Bharat (ABHA) cards, ration cards, and other vital benefits. The ultimate goal, as stated by the Deputy Commissioner, is to empower the transgender community towards self-reliance. This will involve connecting them with skill development training, self-help groups, small-scale industries, and other supportive government initiatives. The administration acknowledges transgender individuals as integral members of society who deserve equal rights, opportunities, and respect.
