Hundreds of Thousands of Disputes Settled in Single Day Lok Adalat Session

In a single Saturday session, the National Lok Adalat in Western Singhbhum resolved more than 133,000 disputes, setting a new benchmark for rapid justice delivery. The courts at Chaibasah and Chakradharpur together facilitated settlements amounting to ₹39.51 crore.

Eleven benches, chaired by the Principal District and Sessions Judge along with the District Legal Service Authority chief, oversaw the majority of the docket, while three additional benches at Chakradharpur cleared remaining matters.

The pre‑litigation queue included 129,777 filings: 128,108 revenue cases, 943 permanent Lok Adalat applications, 609 bank‑related issues, 102 traffic ticket challenges, ten BSNL grievances and five consumer‑court petitions.

Moreover, 3,458 cases pending in other courts were resolved amicably, covering criminal, electricity, revenue, motor‑accident, family and property‑transfer categories. A notable mediation in the family court reunited a long‑separated couple, who agreed to resume living together.

The Secretary of the District Legal Service Authority noted that the Jharkhand State Legal Service Authority mandates a Lok Adalat every three months, aiming to provide swift, mutually agreeable outcomes and reduce the strain of prolonged litigation on the public.
