In a shocking series of burglaries, thieves targeted three homes in the Ulidih police station area of East Singhbhum late Tuesday night. The perpetrators made off with a significant amount of cash and valuable gold and silver jewelry, estimated to be worth over Rs 50 lakh in total. The brazen thefts have sent a wave of fear through the locality, especially considering one incident occurred just a hundred meters from the police station.
One of the affected residences, belonging to Bajanti Devi on Shankosai Road Number 2, was found with its main gate lock broken upon the family’s return from a wedding ceremony around 2 AM. They had left their home secured at approximately 9 PM. Inside, they discovered that an almirah had been ransacked, with Rs 70,000 in cash and gold and silver ornaments valued at around Rs 20 lakh missing. The discovery left the family devastated.
Compounding the distress, the upstairs residence of Oranganath, who resides in the same building, was also burglarized the same night. Thieves stole approximately Rs 20,000 in cash and jewelry worth about Rs 12 lakh from his home. Combined, the two properties suffered a loss of about Rs 90,000 in cash and over Rs 32 lakh in jewelry.
Adding to the alarming crime spree, another home was targeted just two hundred meters from the Ulidih police station. Pawan Kumar’s residence was broken into while he was also attending a family function in Adityapur. Upon his late-night return, he found his home’s lock tampered with and jewelry worth an estimated Rs 20 lakh gone from his almirah.
Ulidih police have been notified of all incidents and have initiated an investigation. Officers have visited the crime scenes and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas. The recurring nature of these thefts has created a climate of anxiety among residents.
