A serious allegation has been leveled against the Jharkhand government by BJP State President and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi. Marandi claims the state administration is actively creating new crimes to cover up existing illegal activities. He stated that it has become a routine for the government and the system to invent fresh offenses to hide actual crimes in Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal sector’s dark underbelly in Dhanbad have unearthed disturbing evidence. Most alarmingly, it is reported that certain ‘top police officials,’ enriched by the illicit coal trade, have allegedly tasked coal mafia operatives with eliminating their own ground-level associates permanently. This alleged directive aims to prevent crucial information from surfacing during investigations. There are credible reports suggesting plots to murder individuals currently being questioned by the ED. This tactic of orchestrating ‘encounter killings’ of witnesses under the guise of apprehending criminals is not unprecedented in the state. Jharkhand has previously witnessed a Director General of Police accused of orchestrating contract killings and amassing unprecedented corruption, with even members of the ruling party acknowledging his corrupt practices. The ED is urged to exercise extreme caution, as in this environment, those who suppress the truth hold power, not those who speak it. When power, the system, and criminal elements converge, the perversion of justice becomes a mere formality.
