Opposition leader Babulal Marandi has leveled serious accusations against the Jharkhand government, alleging a deliberate effort to create new crimes to cover up existing illegal activities. Marandi stated that it has become a disturbing trend for the government and the system to concoct new offenses to obscure actual criminal enterprises in the state. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal mafia’s domain in Dhanbad have unearthed startling evidence. Most alarmingly, it is reported that certain high-ranking police officials, benefiting financially from illicit coal trade, have allegedly tasked coal mafiosi with eliminating their own ground-level operatives permanently. This move is reportedly designed to prevent key individuals from cooperating with the ED investigation. Marandi warned that plots are allegedly being hatched to assassinate individuals being questioned by the ED, ensuring that the truth remains buried. He drew parallels to past instances in Jharkhand where ‘encounter killings’ were used to destroy evidence, referencing a former Director General of Police accused of orchestrating such events for hire and setting new benchmarks for corruption in the state, even by members of the ruling party. The opposition leader urged the ED to exercise extreme caution, highlighting that in Jharkhand, those who suppress the truth, not those who speak it, often hold sway. When power, the system, and criminal elements align, the perversion of justice becomes a mere formality.
