A serious accusation has been leveled against the Jharkhand state government, alleging it is manufacturing new crimes to cover up existing illegal activities. State BJP President and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, stated that this practice has become a disturbing norm for the government and the system. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal mafia’s domain in Dhanbad have unearthed significant evidence. However, a more alarming development reveals that certain high-ranking police officials, reportedly benefiting from illegal coal earnings, have allegedly tasked associates with eliminating low-level operatives to prevent information from surfacing. Reports suggest that individuals being interrogated by the ED are now targets for elimination, a sinister plot to suppress the truth. Marandi drew parallels to past incidents in the state where alleged ‘evidence encounters’ were staged under the guise of apprehending criminals. He recalled a former Director General of Police accused of orchestrating contract killings and engaging in rampant corruption, actions that even members of the ruling party have previously denounced. The opposition leader urged the ED to exercise extreme caution, emphasizing that in Jharkhand, those who suppress truth, rather than those who speak it, often hold sway. When power, the system, and criminal elements align, the pursuit of justice is tragically compromised.
