A serious accusation has been leveled against the Jharkhand government, with state BJP President and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, alleging that the administration is creating new crimes to conceal existing ones. Marandi stated that the habit of inventing new offenses to hide criminal activities has become a norm for the government and the system in Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal-rich Dhanbad region have unearthed startling evidence. However, the most alarming revelation is the alleged directive from certain high-ranking police officials, whose fortunes are reportedly swelling from illicit coal earnings, to eliminate ground-level operatives of coal mafias permanently. These directives are reportedly aimed at silencing individuals being interrogated by the ED to prevent crucial truths from surfacing. Marandi drew parallels to past incidents where ‘evidence encounters’ were orchestrated under the guise of apprehending criminals. He recalled a past Director General of Police (DGP) in Jharkhand who faced accusations of orchestrating encounters for hire, with even members of the ruling party denouncing him as the most corrupt DGP the state had ever seen, breaking all records of corruption. The opposition leader urged the ED to exercise extreme caution, emphasizing that in Jharkhand, those who suppress the truth, rather than those who speak it, hold power. When the government, the system, and criminal elements align, the perversion of justice becomes a mere formality.
