A major accident was narrowly averted on the Torpa Main Road in Khunti on Sunday, near Gupta Hardware store. The incident occurred when a trailer truck driver parked his vehicle by the roadside near Mahadev Fruit shop to purchase fruits. While the driver was away, the unattended truck began to roll backward. It traveled approximately 200 meters before colliding with a stationary tempo. The impact was severe, resulting in the tempo being completely damaged. Additionally, a nearby electricity transformer was also hit and sustained damage. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this alarming incident, which could have led to significant loss of life. Local residents quickly responded to the scene, managed the situation, and informed the electricity department. Police inspected the accident site and have registered a case. Eyewitnesses reported that the road was busy at the time of the accident, but swift action by alerted individuals prevented further disaster. The Torpa police have seized the trailer and taken it to the police station for investigation.
