Tragedy struck at the Subdivisional Office in Koderma today with the sudden demise of an official while on duty. Mahesh Kumar, a 45-year-old employee residing in Koderma but originally from Hazaribagh, experienced a fatal cardiac arrest. The incident unfolded on Thursday evening around 8 PM. As colleagues prepared to leave for the day, they noticed Mahesh was missing. He was responsible for locking the office premises. A search ensued, and his mobile phone was discovered ringing inside an office room, leading colleagues to believe he had left for home on an urgent matter after forgetting his phone. Another employee, Golu Sinha, locked the main entrance and took Mahesh’s phone to his residence. Later, when Mahesh failed to arrive home, his worried wife, accompanied by their son, went to the Subdivisional Magistrate’s residence to inquire. The guard there provided a spare key, and together they proceeded to the office. After an extensive search, Mahesh was found unconscious in the SDO’s chamber. He was rushed to the Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The Subdivisional Magistrate, Ria Singh, visited the hospital to offer condolences to the grieving family. CCTV footage reviewed on Friday morning revealed Mahesh entering the SDO’s chamber around 7 PM and not leaving thereafter. Deputy Commissioner Rituraj also visited the hospital to express his sympathies. Mahesh Kumar, who had been working at the office since 2021, is survived by his wife and two children, with whom he resided in a rented accommodation in Koderma.
