In Ranchi, Jharkhand, a brazen act of violence unfolded late Sunday evening as an unidentified assailant stormed a residence and opened fire on a man, firing approximately five to six rounds. When another individual pursued the attacker, the assailant turned the gun on them, causing serious injuries. The incident occurred in the Jhakhra Tanda area, under the Ratu police station jurisdiction.
At Jhakhra Tanda, the attacker fatally shot Ravi Saw with three bullets. Balma, who chased the assailant, was seriously wounded by gunfire. The incident triggered widespread panic in the area. Upon receiving the information, Rural SP Praveen Pushkar, DSP, and the Ratu police promptly arrived at the scene. A forensic team was also present to gather evidence.
Initial investigations suggest a possible land dispute as the motive. The deceased, originally from Tundwa, Chatra district, had his body taken by the police for a post-mortem examination, while the injured Balma was admitted to RIMS hospital for treatment. The reason behind the crime remains unclear, although a land dispute is suspected to be the cause.
Following the shooting, the attacker fled the scene. SP Praveen Pushkar reported that Dadu Balma was drinking with Ravi Saw at Pradeep Munda’s house when the unknown assailant arrived and shot Ravi Saw three times, killing him instantly. Balma, who pursued the assailant, was also shot. The attacker then escaped. CCTV cameras in the vicinity are being examined, and checking operations are underway at entry and exit points of Ranchi to apprehend the suspect.
The event has instilled fear and anxiety among the local population. Previously, on August 10th, a man named Sahil Giddi, also known as Kurkure, was shot dead in broad daylight near Bhatti Chowk, under the Hindpidhi police station area of Ranchi. The local residents protested this murder, and damaged and set fire to the homes of several individuals, including a former councilor, who were allegedly involved in the crime.
