A technical assessment of an illegal coal mine in Ramgarh revealed a lethal drop in oxygen levels that led to the deaths of four workers. Mines Rescue In-charge Vikas Kumar stated that the oxygen concentration inside the tunnel was recorded at just 9%, far below the necessary 21% for human survival. The miners had descended 30 feet vertically and navigated 40 feet horizontally into the earth. At such low levels, unconsciousness and death occur within minutes. The bodies of the four men—Kishore, Ashish, Deva, and Dabbu—were retrieved after an intensive rescue effort in the Argada forest range.
