Former Parcel Clerk Jailed for One Year Over 1995 Corruption Charge

The legal journey of Kali Shankar Dhobi, which began with a CBI sting operation in 1995, has concluded with a prison sentence. The Jharkhand High Court reviewed the appeal of the 75-year-old former clerk, who was found guilty of soliciting Rs 100 to facilitate a railway booking. While the lower court had initially imposed a stricter sentence, the High Court reduced it to one year of concurrent imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Dhobi, who has already lost his job and pension benefits, must now surrender to authorities within 60 days.
