Congress Accuses BJP of Fund Theft While Opposing Mining Bill

On Wednesday, the District Congress Committee convened a dharna outside Samharanalay, acting on guidance from the All India Congress Committee. District President Ravi Mishra opened the protest, denouncing the Mining (Amendment) Bill as a tool for the central government to hand over Jharkhand's water, forest and land to private corporations. Mishra also alleged that the ruling party indulged in fund theft, diverting resources meant for development. He claimed the legislation runs contrary to the interests of tribal‑majority states and violates the rights of indigenous people. The protest was attended by senior party members including Lok Sabha in‑charge Rajesh Gupta, district in‑charge Chaitu Uraav and legislative in‑charge Himanshu Rai. After the sit‑in, a written appeal was handed to the President, demanding the bill's immediate withdrawal, a Supreme Court‑monitored probe into the financial irregularities, and protection of tribal gram‑sabha authority.
