Police Recover Dismembered Remains in Jharkhand Village After Canine Search

Authorities in Giridih district, Jharkhand, have recovered the dismembered remains of a teenage boy after a pair of dogs inadvertently uncovered the evidence. The victim, identified as 16‑year‑old Mithun Kumar Das of Moriyadi, Bihar, had vanished following a visit to his girlfriend’s home in Paharpur village.

Family members claim the boy was invited inside the residence of Jagdish Das, a local resident, and was subsequently murdered. The alleged modus operandi involved cutting the body into three sections and burying the pieces in the backyard of the accused’s house.

Local residents reported that on a Thursday, while digging a plot of land, two dogs began to excavate a particular spot, revealing a human leg. The discovery prompted immediate police action. SDPO Jeetwahan Uraon, alongside Inspector Bambar Kumar and Head Constable Aman Kumar Singh, reached the location with a magistrate, and the site was excavated under official supervision.

During the investigation, police also found blood stains inside the house, bolstering suspicions of foul play. Jagdish Das, his spouse, and their daughter are now in police custody for detailed questioning. The police have also summoned a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to collect DNA samples, trace evidence, and determine the weapon used.

The incident has generated widespread unrest in the village, with the victim’s relatives confronting the alleged perpetrators and a brief skirmish breaking out before police intervened. The case remains under active investigation, with authorities focusing on confirming the love‑rival motive that appears to have driven the crime.
