In a significant development in Ranchi, police engaged in a shootout with members of the notorious Sujit Sinha gang near Balsiring, Tupudana OP. The encounter, which occurred early Monday morning, resulted in the apprehension of two criminals and injuries to one. Authorities have also seized three firearms from the scene, marking a major blow to the gang’s operations.
The confrontation is believed to be linked to a recent firing incident at the residence of Monu Rai in the Doranda police station area. Police sources indicate that the arrested individuals, identified as Aftab and Sonu, along with another accomplice, acted under the direction of Sujit Sinha. Rural SP Praveen Pushkar confirmed the shootout and the recovery of weapons, stating that investigations are ongoing.
The operation was initiated following intelligence received by SSP Rakesh Ranjan regarding the movement of Sujit Sinha’s associates. A coordinated effort by the Rural SP, Hatia DSP PK Mishra, and multiple police station teams led to intensified checking campaigns across the city. During a routine bike check, officers intercepted a suspect carrying a pistol. Subsequent interrogation revealed the suspect to be Sonu, a key member of Sinha’s gang.
Acting on Sonu’s information about other gang members congregating near Balsiring hill, police launched a swift operation. As the team approached, the criminals opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the police. Aftab sustained a gunshot injury during the exchange. The two apprehended criminals are currently undergoing interrogation. SSP Rakesh Ranjan visited the site to assess the situation firsthand.
