Ranchi Police Probe Massive Daytime Heist at Daroga’s House

Law‑enforcement officials in Ranchi are investigating a high‑profile theft that occurred in the Sadar police area’s Bank Colony neighbourhood. Thieves entered the home of Sub‑Inspector Dhananjay Shahi on a Sunday evening, binding his young daughter and making off with cash, gold and jewellery worth more than ₹50 lakh.

The officer’s wife, Sanju Devi, was out shopping for the Tiji festival, while their son attended tuition, leaving the daughter alone. The intruders threatened the child with a knife, restrained her, and then looted the safe, which contained ₹30 lakh in cash and over 250 grams of gold that had been saved for a land purchase that later fell through due to a legal dispute.

Following the report, Sadar police arrived with forensic specialists, sealed the premises, and began a thorough examination of the crime scene. CCTV footage from surrounding streets is being scrutinised to trace the perpetrators. The officer’s wife filed an FIR, and the investigation continues. The brazen nature of the crime has prompted calls for stronger security measures for police families in Jharkhand.
