In Jharkhand, a state rich in water, forests, and natural minerals, clashes between criminal gangs vying for control of mineral and sand ghats are escalating, leading to violent confrontations. In a recent incident, a video has surfaced from the Chhapar Ghat area of the Budhmu police station in Ranchi. The video shows members of a gang, led by a man identifying himself as Bhavani Singh, openly threatening rivals with violence and firing a weapon. The threats are related to controlling sand extraction at the Chhapar Ghat. The individual warned that those who obey ‘Bhairav Singh’ would face dire consequences, including being shot. The video, which is 21 seconds long, also features gunfire. Ranchi SSP cum DIG Chanda Kumar Sinha confirmed that the police are aware of the video and the identity of the criminal and that appropriate action would be taken. In 2024, armed criminals set fire to about half a dozen vehicles, including a JCB and a turbo truck, at the Chhapar sand ghat when they were prevented from extracting sand and did not receive extortion money.
