Dr. Irfan Ansari, Jharkhand’s Minister of Health, Food Supplies, and Disaster Management, made a significant announcement during a press conference at the Jharkhand Assembly. He stated that the proposed RIMS-2 hospital, planned for Nagri Mouza in Ranchi’s Kanke area, will now be named after Shibu Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, a prominent figure in the state, and a voice for the underprivileged. The institution will be called the ‘Shibu Soren Institute of Medical Sciences’ (SSIMS). Dr. Ansari claimed that the hospital, named in honor of Shibu Soren, will be the largest hospital in Asia. He emphasized that this decision is linked to the identity and pride of Jharkhand. Shibu Soren has consistently championed the cause of the tribal, Dalit, poor, and farmer communities. To immortalize his contributions, this medical institution is being established in his name. Dr. Ansari further stated that the Shibu Soren Institute of Medical Sciences (SSIMS) will become a new hub for healthcare facilities, not just in Jharkhand, but across eastern India, sparking a new revolution in health services. The institution will offer cutting-edge health services, including super-specialty wards and modern research centers. Priority will be given to providing free and affordable medical care to the poor and underprivileged to ensure that no patient is denied treatment due to financial constraints. Furthermore, the institute will provide new opportunities for medical education and research, creating thousands of jobs and training opportunities for the youth of Jharkhand. Dr. Ansari declared that this institute will bring a ‘health revolution’ to Jharkhand. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the state government are committed to ensuring quality health facilities for every citizen. The Jharkhand government proposed to build RIMS-2, the largest and most advanced super-specialty hospital in Asia, on more than 200 acres of land in Nagri Mouza, Ranchi. However, as soon as the construction and land fencing began, the project faced controversy.
