Santali Language Advocacy Gains Attention as Students Meet Hemant Soren in Ranchi

A delegation of the Jharkhand Santal Students Union convened with Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the official residence on Kanak Road, Ranchi, on Saturday. The students used the platform to draw attention to the fading use of Santali among younger generations and the lack of institutional support for the language.

Among the issues raised were the need for teacher training programs in Santali, the allocation of funds for community‑run language workshops, and the integration of Santali literature into university syllabi.

The Chief Minister responded positively, stating that the government recognizes the cultural significance of Santali and will allocate resources to safeguard it.

The meeting was attended by Union President Vijay Kumar Hansda, Vice‑President Sabita Baske, Secretary Harish Chandra Marandi, Joint Secretary Sangam Lata Kumari, Treasurer Baboolal Hembram, along with members Anand and Gopal Chandra Hansda.
