A disturbing incident unfolded at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand, a prestigious institution, where an MBA student was attacked on Wednesday night. An unidentified individual entered the campus and initiated a harassment incident with the student. Upon her resistance, the assailant inflicted a blade wound on the student.
Following the incident, the injured student was immediately taken to a nursing home for medical attention. News of the harassment and subsequent assault sparked outrage among students, leading to immediate protests within the college campus. Despite attempts by the college administration and the local BIT OP police to calm the situation, the demonstrations persisted.
Students have declared a class boycott for Thursday, protesting the incident. They will abstain from attending classes as a form of expressing their dissent against the campus attack. BIT OP police are currently gathering information from the victim student regarding the events. The incident occurred late Wednesday night while the student was walking within the campus.
The unknown assailant entered the campus and began harassing the student. When the student resisted, the assailant used a blade to inflict an injury. The police are investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage from the BIT Mesra campus to identify the perpetrator.
BIT Mesra was established in 1955 by industrialist BM Birla. The institute, which spans approximately 780 acres, holds deemed university status from the UGC. It is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the National Board of Accreditation.
On February 15th of this year, President Droupadi Murmu attended the platinum jubilee celebrations of BIT Mesra as the chief guest. The President inaugurated an exhibition showcasing the college’s 70-year academic journey and inspected the science and technology-based exhibits. She also interacted with the students of BIT Mesra.
