The last rites of the late Shibu Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, were performed with full religious rituals on Tuesday. The cremation took place in Nemra, his ancestral village in the Gola block of Ramgarh district. A large crowd of well-wishers gathered at the site to pay their respects.
News of the last rites of Shibu Soren, known as Guruji, had reached people, and they began arriving at Nemra from Tuesday morning. Barricades were set up by the district administration at Lukaiyatand, about seven kilometers before the village. Arrangements for a helipad and vehicles were made for VIPs. The seven-kilometer route was accessible only to VIPs as per the route set by the district administration. However, supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Shibu Soren chose to cover the long distance of seven kilometers on foot.
The general public reached Nemra on foot from Lukaiyatand. There was no space to walk on the roads. The path repaired by the district administration to reach the crematorium was also filled with mud. Arrangements were made to carry the body by laying planks in the paddy fields and mud. When the general public found no path, they took to the footpaths in the fields. Supporters of Shibu Soren reached the crematorium via different footpaths. The most remarkable thing was that when it started raining, some people took shelter in the tents. But the supporters of Shibu Soren stood their ground even in this situation. They stood for about half an hour in the rain and finally returned after paying their respects to their leader.
