Surya Hansda, Who Ran for Assembly Elections Four Times, Killed in Police Encounter

Surya Hansda was killed in a police encounter in Godda, Jharkhand. He was a fugitive wanted in several criminal cases. The encounter took place near Jirli Samari hill in the Boarijore police station area of Godda district. Hansda, who had political connections, had contested elections multiple times to become an MLA from the Borio assembly seat in the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand.

In 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had nominated Suryanarayan Hansda alias Surya Hansda as its candidate from the Borio assembly seat. However, in the 2024 assembly elections, after not getting a ticket, he left the BJP. He then contested the elections from the Borio assembly seat on the JKLM party symbol but faced defeat.
