In Garhwa district of Jharkhand, a devastating incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals who entered a septic tank to remove its shuttering. Among the deceased were three brothers. The incident triggered widespread grief and shock within the affected family. Following the event, the Garhwa police station was informed. Upon arrival, the police took possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.
The incident occurred at the residence of a man named Moti Chaudhary in the Nawada village, within the Garhwa police station area. Construction work was underway at the house, which included the building of a new septic tank. Maltu Ram, a resident of the same village, first entered the tank to remove the setting. When he failed to emerge for a considerable time, concern grew among the family members outside.
Fearing something untoward had happened, Raju Shekhar Chaudhary, the eldest son of the homeowner, Moti Chaudhary, went into the septic tank to check on Maltu Ram. He also did not come out. Subsequently, his brothers, Ajay Chaudhary and Chandrashekhar Chaudhary, followed suit, entering the tank one after another. Tragically, all four died due to suffocation inside the septic tank.
The news of the suffocation deaths of the three brothers and another person sent shockwaves throughout the village. The Garhwa police station was immediately notified. After a strenuous effort, villagers managed to pull the four individuals out of the septic tank and rushed them to the hospital. However, it was too late. Doctors declared them dead.
Upon receiving the information, Garhwa District SDO Sanjay Kumar, SDPO Neeraj Kumar, the Station In-charge, and a large number of other officials arrived at the hospital to assess the situation. Preliminary investigations suggested that the deaths were caused by suffocation due to poisonous gases accumulating inside the septic tank. The police administration is currently investigating the incident.
