Dhanbad: Notorious Wasseypur gangster Fahim Khan is set to be released from jail soon. The Jharkhand High Court issued an order for his release last Friday, sparking jubilation among his family members on Saturday. Khan has spent approximately 16 years incarcerated before this impending freedom.
The order from the Jharkhand High Court on Friday brought immense relief and joy to Fahim Khan’s family. His son, Iqbal Khan, celebrated the news by sharing sweets with relatives, expressing their long-held faith in the judicial system to deliver justice. Iqbal Khan also extended his gratitude to the Dhanbad police for their role in maintaining law and order in the district.
Iqbal Khan took the opportunity to caution young individuals against choosing a life of crime, emphasizing that such paths inevitably lead to negative consequences. He urged them to abandon criminal activities and reintegrate into mainstream society. Fahim Khan’s lawyer, Shahbaz Salam, explained that the gangster had filed a petition on November 29, 2024, seeking his release. The petition cited Khan’s advanced age and ongoing health issues as reasons for his incarceration to be reconsidered.
The court had previously instructed the state government to form a review board to assess Khan’s case. The lawyer highlighted that Fahim Khan is over 75 years old and has been imprisoned for more than two decades. These arguments, concerning his age and lengthy imprisonment, were instrumental in the court’s decision to grant his release. Fahim Khan was convicted in the murder of Sagir in 1989 and has been serving his sentence since 2009. The recent court order has brought widespread happiness to his family and supporters.
