Jor Bagh Not Renamed: NDMC Awards Sustainability Tag

The New Delhi Municipal Council has rejected claims that Jor Bagh colony is being renamed Anupam Colony. In a detailed clarification on social media, NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljit Singh Chahal explained that the term Anupam Colony is only a certification label given to residential areas that excel in decentralized waste management. The council highlighted that Jor Bagh has achieved complete source segregation of waste, on-site composting of wet and horticultural refuse, and mechanized cleaning without dust. This recognition does not alter the colony's official name, which continues to be Jor Bagh. The formal announcement and a plantation drive will take place on 17 May 2026 at the colony premises. Other localities already holding the tag include New Moti Bagh, Kaka Nagar, Bapu Dham, and Aradhana Cooperative Housing Society. Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi had initially posted that the posh colony had lost its identity, but later corrected herself after understanding the actual purpose of the initiative. The certification aims to promote self-reliant and zero-waste lifestyles among Delhi residents.
