Kanwar Yatra Disrupts Delhi-NCR: Traffic Chaos, School Closures, and Incidents of Vandalism

The Kanwar Yatra, which began on July 11th, significantly impacted daily life in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas, culminating on July 23rd. The pilgrimage, a devotional undertaking where devotees collect holy water from the Ganges, caused widespread traffic disruptions, leading to road closures and commuter delays. Schools and colleges were compelled to shift to online classes, affecting students and parents. Amidst the inconvenience, several incidents of vandalism and altercations involving Kanwariyas were reported. While authorities implemented measures such as route diversions and dedicated corridors for the pilgrims, the impact on the general public was substantial. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has addressed the issue, warning of strict action against those inciting violence under the guise of the Yatra. The final day of the Yatra is expected to bring relief as normalcy is anticipated to return on Thursday.
