Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha declared the reopening of eight tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley following a security assessment. These locations were temporarily closed after a terror incident in Pahalgam on April 22nd. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the decision to reopen was made after evaluating the existing situation.
To ensure tourist safety, approximately 48 tourist spots were temporarily closed as a precaution. The initial phase of reopening includes locations in Anantnag District like Betab Valley, Pahalgam, Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal Gardens, along with parks in the Pahalgam market. In Srinagar, Badamwari, Duck Park, and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal will also be accessible to visitors once again.
LG Sinha expressed optimism that the upcoming Amarnath Yatra will significantly aid in revitalizing tourism in Kashmir. He encouraged participation in the annual pilgrimage, highlighting its potential to boost the local economy and revive tourism. The reopening of these sites is considered a positive move to restore Kashmir’s standing as a prime tourist destination, attracting both domestic and international visitors to experience its natural beauty and cultural heritage.
