A devastating landslide near Jangalchatti on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district resulted in the deaths of two porters from Jammu and Kashmir and injuries to three others, including a pilgrim from Gujarat, on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 11:20 am when the landslide caused debris to fall, leading to several individuals falling into a deep gorge. Rescue operations were swiftly initiated by teams from the NDRF, SDRF, local police, and the District Disaster Response Force. The deceased porters have been identified as Nitin Kumar and Chandrashekhar. Among the injured, Sandeep Kumar sustained severe injuries to his legs and waist, Nitin Manhas suffered a broken right hand, and Akash Chitriya, a pilgrim, received injuries at various places. All injured individuals were promptly rescued and transported to Gaurikund Hospital. The incident raises concerns about the safety of the Kedarnath Yatra route, especially during the monsoon season. Authorities have urged pilgrims to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rainfall in the coming days, with an orange alert for several districts on June 21 and 22.
