A case has been formally registered against suspended Kerala Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil following a serious sexual assault allegation. The complaint, lodged by a woman, details accusations of sexual assault and forced pregnancy termination. Police have initiated an investigation after recording the complainant’s detailed statement late on Thursday at Valiyamala Police Station. Authorities have stated that all claims will be thoroughly examined as the inquiry progresses. The woman reportedly met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday to submit her complaint, detailing alleged serious misconduct by the suspended leader. Further updates are expected as the initial investigation procedures conclude. Congress party officials have indicated that the legal process will unfold independently. Deepa Dasmunsi, AICC leader for Kerala, highlighted Mamkootathil’s existing suspension from the party and affirmed that ‘law will take its course.’ She also suggested that approaching the police directly would have been a more appropriate initial step for the complainant. Meanwhile, senior leader K Muraleedharan commented on Mamkootathil’s ability to campaign for party candidates in the upcoming local body polls, stating there’s no impediment to seeking votes. However, he reiterated that due to his suspension, Mamkootathil cannot participate in official party events or share platforms with party leaders.
