Kerala Left Workers Vandalize ED Vehicles in Protest

A dramatic standoff unfolded in the Kerala capital when CPI(M) activists surrounded Enforcement Directorate vehicles leaving the home of Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan. The protest was triggered by simultaneous ED raids at multiple premises connected to the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited investigation. Eyewitnesses reported that demonstrators chanted slogans against the agency and attempted to physically obstruct the convoy, resulting in smashed windows and dented bodywork on several vehicles. Authorities responded by deploying additional police forces who used batons to disperse the gathering. One officer was injured in the process and later received medical attention. Speaking after the incident, Vijayan framed the searches as part of a deliberate strategy by the ruling dispensation to harass non-BJP leaders. He recalled that Congress leaders had earlier questioned why his residence had not been raided, implying that the current operation satisfied certain political interests. The former chief minister emphasized that his party remained united and undeterred. He described the protests as a spontaneous expression of public anger and warned that any attempt to silence the Left through investigative overreach would only strengthen its resolve. Vijayan concluded by stating that the CPI(M) was prepared to face any challenge posed by central agencies.
