Kerala Vaynad Tunnel Collapse Claims Life of First-Time Out-of-Home Worker

A tragic incident at the Vaynad tunnel project in Kerala claimed the life of Anmol Dodray, a migrant labourer from Jharkhand's Khunti district. The landslide, which occurred during tunnel excavation, buried several workers, including Anmol, who had travelled to Kerala for the first time to earn a livelihood.

According to his sister Premlata, Anmol had told the family he would work as a security guard, wearing a uniform and monitoring site activities. The family was unaware of the exact nature of his duties or the name of the contracting firm. After the collapse, the authorities recovered his body and air‑lifted it to Ranchi, where it was handed over to relatives and officials.

State officials are now coordinating rescue and relief operations, while simultaneously launching an investigation into safety protocols at the construction site. The incident highlights the risks faced by migrant workers who leave their hometowns for temporary employment in distant states.
