Lokayukta Investigation Finds Over ₹2 Crore in Unaccounted Assets

A major anti‑corruption drive by Karnataka’s Lokayukta resulted in the discovery of assets valued at more than ₹2 crore across three districts on September 22. The operation, covering Mandya, Kalaburagi and Hubli‑Dharwad, focused on both retired and active officials accused of holding disproportionate wealth.

In Mandya, the search of a retired B.C.M. Hostel superintendent’s house and farm house yielded cash, gold jewellery, property deeds, high‑end silk sarees and about 80 bottles of alcoholic beverage. Investigators also seized food stocks – rice, lentils and oil – that were reportedly earmarked for hostel residents, together with souvenir boxes presented at a literary conference two years prior.

Kalaburagi’s raid targeted a female assistant executive engineer of GESCOM. The officers recovered approximately 400 grams of gold and are scrutinising her financial disclosures for inconsistencies.

The Hubli‑Dharwad sweep involved four locations tied to a HESCOM assistant official. Alongside cash and gold, liquor bottles and numerous official documents were confiscated. Photocopy machines and scanners were brought to the sites to digitise the material for further legal processing.
