State government promises compensation within a week after damage assessment

Maharashtra’s executive has announced a swift financial relief package for farmers affected by the recent shortfall in monsoon rainfall. The decision follows a directive from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who instructed district officials to fast‑track the compilation of loss reports.

Collectors, tehsildars and other field officers have been tasked with evaluating the impact on crops, livestock feed and related agricultural inputs. The government has set a one‑week deadline for submitting the consolidated findings, after which compensation will be released to eligible beneficiaries.

Arun Savant, spokesperson for Shiv Sena, reiterated the administration’s commitment, noting that the aid will also cover fodder shortages for cattle and other livestock. He called on political adversaries to stop spreading misinformation about the state’s response and to allow the relief process to proceed uninterrupted.

The announcement aims to restore confidence among the farming community and to demonstrate that the state’s leadership is taking decisive action in the face of an emerging drought scenario.
