A significant advancement is underway in India’s private sector, marking the first time helicopters will be manufactured domestically. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will establish a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vemgal, Karnataka, in collaboration with Airbus, to produce the H125 helicopter. This project promises to revolutionize India’s civil aviation industry while simultaneously addressing the needs of the armed forces. The Indian Army has long recognized the necessity for light, multi-purpose helicopters, particularly for deployments in the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas.
TASL indicates that the entire process, from construction and assembly to integration and final flight testing, will be conducted within India. The initial deliveries of the Make in India H125 helicopters are anticipated to commence in early 2027. These helicopters are poised to play a vital role in sectors such as emergency medical services, disaster relief, tourism, law enforcement, and passenger transportation.
