In response to the ongoing law and order challenges in Manipur, the state government has mandated a five-day suspension of internet and mobile data services across five key districts. This measure, effective from 11:45 PM on June 7, 2025, encompasses VSAT and VPN services. The affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur. The government’s decision, as outlined in an official notification, aims to curtail the dissemination of inflammatory content, hate speech, and misleading information via social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Authorities fear that such content could exacerbate tensions and provoke violence within the state. Prohibitory orders have been issued by District Magistrates in all five districts, urging public cooperation. Restrictions on gatherings of four or more people are in place in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, and Kakching districts, while Bishnupur faces a complete curfew.
