Manipur Students Depart for SPIC MACAY Global Cultural Meet

In a vibrant display of cultural enthusiasm, 18 students and teachers from Manipur left for the 11th SPIC MACAY International Convention at IIT Kharagpur this week. Flagging off the delegation at Raj Bhavan, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla reminded the young participants that while embracing global trends is essential, preserving one’s cultural identity remains equally important. SPIC MACAY, a nationwide voluntary movement, has been connecting youth with India’s classical and folk traditions for decades. This year’s convention will feature workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and performances spanning classical music, dance, yoga, and heritage crafts, drawing participants from multiple countries. The Governor advised the students to actively engage in every session, interact with peers from different states and nations, and return with ideas that could strengthen cultural understanding back home. He expressed confidence that the experience would broaden their horizons while reinforcing pride in Manipur’s unique heritage. The send-off was attended by senior Assam Rifles officers, SPIC MACAY chapter officials, and representatives from participating schools including Manipur University of Culture and schools from Mantripukhri and Keithelmanbi.
