Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati strongly condemned the significant increase in tariffs imposed by the United States on Indian goods. She labeled it ‘Trump Tariff Terror’ and called on the central government to take robust measures to address the situation arising from the tariff imposition. Mayawati emphasized the necessity of strong and meaningful reforms by the BJP-led central government to safeguard the public interest and counter the impact of the ‘Trump Tariff Terror’. She warned that inaction would exacerbate public hardship, leading to increased poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, inflation, and migration, thereby undermining the nation’s honor and global standing. Mayawati made these remarks while presiding over a BSP review meeting in Lucknow. Her statement followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s positive assessment of the India-US partnership and his appreciation for the ‘special’ relationship between the two countries, signaling an intent to mitigate the recent decline in relations between the two nations.
