Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India in consecutive terms, having completed 4,078 days in office. This achievement places him behind only India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Modi has now equaled Nehru’s record for winning three consecutive Lok Sabha elections, securing victories in 2014, 2019, and 2024.
Commenting on the milestone, a BJP Member of Parliament highlighted the developmental achievements during Modi’s tenure, contrasting them with what was described as “black chapters of arbitrariness” in the tenures of other Prime Ministers. The statement also criticized a remark made by a Jharkhand Minister, deeming it an insult to the Prime Minister and reflective of a negative mindset.
Modi is now the longest-serving Prime Minister from outside the Congress party and the first to complete two full terms. This contrasts with former BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who also served multiple times but did not complete a full second term, despite being elected three times.
