Following weeks of intense heat, North India is experiencing a significant drop in temperature. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the advancement of the southwest monsoon towards the northern and central regions. Weather officials anticipate above-average rainfall throughout India in the final days of June. This forecast offers a potential respite from the ongoing heatwave affecting several areas. Heavy rainfall is expected from June 17th to 20th in states like West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Other regions likely to be affected include Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan. Additionally, the IMD has issued warnings regarding strong surface winds over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam. A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi, with rain anticipated in the city this week.
