MPSC Secretary Role Given to Collector Sourabh Katiyar as Secretariat Shifts

In a parallel appointment, the Maharashtra government has named Mumbai Suburban district collector Sourabh Katiyar, an Indian Administrative Service officer, as the additional Secretary of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission. The decision was part of an administrative reshuffle triggered by the departure of the previous secretary amid ongoing student demonstrations.

Students in Pune staged an 11‑day protest, accusing the commission of leaking examination papers and demanding an impartial, thorough inquiry. Their demands also included the immediate resignation of senior commission officials.

Katiyar’s new responsibilities will involve overseeing the commission’s day‑to‑day operations and cooperating with the investigation committee led by retired Justice Dilip Bhosale. The committee, tasked with a two‑month investigation, will soon receive a formal notification after the Governor’s approval.

The dual appointments of Vaghole and Katiyar aim to provide stability to the MPSC during a period of intense public scrutiny and to ensure that the forthcoming investigation proceeds without administrative hindrance.
