Amidst ongoing disruptions in Parliament, the National Sports Governance Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday. The bill, introduced by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, on July 23rd, faced opposition from the entire opposition during the voice vote. The bill’s passage in the Rajya Sabha will bring all sports bodies in the country under its purview, including the autonomous Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The financial matters of the BCCI will be kept outside the purview of the RTI. The bill addresses administrative functions, transparency in selection, and similar issues. According to the provisions of the bill, all national federations must abide by Indian law after the bill becomes an act. Even those not receiving financial aid from the ministry will be subject to the parliamentary act. The National Sports Governance Act 2025 will bring the National Olympic Association, National Para Olympic Association, all national sports, regional sports federations, and units from the state to district level under the Ministry of Sports.
