A recent viral video has captured the attention of many, showing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar declining to wear a ‘topi’ at a madrasa event. This action has drawn scrutiny, particularly when juxtaposed with a statement he made twelve years prior. In 2013, Kumar, then the JDU chief, offered advice to the then-Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, stating, “To run the country, you have to take everyone along. At times you will have to wear a topi (cap), at times a tilak (vermillion).” The contrast between Kumar’s past statement and his present action has ignited significant debate on social media. The irony of his refusal to wear the ‘topi’ now, considering his earlier words aimed at Modi, has brought his current political stance into question. It’s also noted that Kumar has been observed wearing the kurta-topi on several occasions in the past.
