New Training Programme Launches Under Odisha-NFSU Cyber Crime Agreement

Bhubaneswar, 4 August – In a landmark ceremony, Odisha Police’s Crime Branch and the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) formalised a five‑year MoU aimed at elevating the state’s cyber policing and digital forensics capabilities.

The signing, witnessed by DGP Crime Branch Vinayatosh Mishra, NFSU Campus Director Purabi Pokhriyal and DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurana, was followed by the launch of the first specialised training programme on cyber crime investigation and digital forensics.

Khurana described the MoU as a "historical milestone" in Odisha Police’s journey toward modernisation. He warned that the nature of crime is rapidly changing, with digital evidence now central to almost every investigation.

The DGP highlighted the growing prevalence of cyber offences such as illegal bank accounts, online investment scams and "digital kidnapping." He underlined that forensic science is essential for probing these crimes under new legislative frameworks.

To bolster the response, the state has set up 20 additional cyber and economic‑offence police stations and allocated roughly ₹15 crore for cutting‑edge hardware and software across its network. Khurana emphasised that targeted training is vital to leverage these investments.

The MoU also paves the way for cooperation in crime‑scene management, higher education, joint research, forensic infrastructure development and technical consultancy, creating an integrated ecosystem for scientific policing.
